E-education cannot replace the traditional on-site education

Nowadays, high technology has penetrated in every aspect of our daily life. We use Internet to search information, do business and sometimes kill time. It seems that our life cannot go without the aid of computer. Furthermore, there is a new trend to apply high technology in education. Some people argue that E-education is so convenient and useful that it will one day take the place of traditional on-site education. They hold the opinion that e-education can affect the way students study and totally change their way of thinking. However, as far as I concerned, E-education will never replace the traditional on-site education.

Firstly, the cost of E-education is too high that few can afford it. As we all know, to develop E-education need advanced technology and large amount of money. In order to develop technological skill and facilities, our government and society have to invest energy and money. On the other hand, the application of distance leaning needs large-scale construction of internet service equipment and installation of computers in remote areas as well as possibility of access to the internet. And the expenditure is costly.

Secondly, students are in lack of self-control so that without supervision of instructors they will not persist in learning. They can’t help playing computer games or surfing the Internet when they sit in front of computer. Furthermore, excerpt for the temptation of computer, TV programs and other entertainments will also distract students’ attention. To this extent, it will have some bad influence on students.

Thirdly, distance leaning cannot provide an interactional atmosphere for communication. The aim of higher education is not only to teach students knowledge but also to cultivate the ability to get along with others. In the traditional on-site education, students have to learn to cooperate with fellow students and communicate with teachers. This is an important skill that cannot acquired easily in E-education. Emotional exchange between individuals, obtain of team spirit and social skills can only be realized by face-to-face communication.

To sum up, though high-technology indeed influence our life a lot and does bring some benefits to society, it still cannot completely change our life-style. We still adhere to some old ways of life for some reasons. We cannot deny the advantages of E-education while we have to admit the truth that it will never replace the traditional way of education. What we have to do is to take fully advantage of distance education to make our education more efficiently.
