Today is April Fools' Day. A happy guy doesn’t have to be a real fool. As so-called master among my peers, I guess I’m obliged to do something for my dear pals, near and far. I bet a philosophic article may serve the purpose well.

Being more and more exposed to the fast-changing employment environment, I’ve always fixed my mind on what on earth young college students are expected to achieve at college.

If we regard ourselves as products on sale in mass market, what features would make us clearly distinctive form lots of others. Should we follow the tide or just copy the ones who had succeeded. The answer is definitely “NO”. Each of us was born unique with all the gifts it takes to succeed. All we need to do is to create our own values-------- the values that are bright enough to stand out in public.

Personally, I take English language competence here as my present core value. I know good values are always being in the pursuit. And I believe that’s why we gather here right now to explore the magic behind it. Few students fail to understand the benefits that fluent English would bring them in the near future. But here comes a problem------- how to establish it as a competitive “value brand”.

One effective way is to build up an interactive platform to our friends. If we shoulder the responsibility of achieving some value and gaining encouragement from others, we’d be more motivated to go on. That’s why the word “communication” is given priority in marketing strategy.

Excellence of value, however, is easier said than done. That’s why best-selling products are just so few. Most of us may have watched the interesting film “Kungfu Panda”. “You just need to believe” quoted from the words of master tortoise in it. With this firm conviction, even the most unlikely panda finally made his way to become the “Dragon Warrior”

Another way to achieve our values is to love what we pursue. An example for you: as noticed, many young couples at college go on a date early in the morning, sunshine-faced and get back late, still sunshine-faced. But I cannot guarantee that happens in the face of students coming back from library holding books alone from morning to evening. Now here comes a contradiction: I went out alone every day with English during college days, yet I’m happy from the bottom of my heart. Why? Because I create romance with English------ my favorite love as I treat her. I’d unlock my mind to fresh ideas popping up from time to time, then I implant them in our companionship as lovers often do. This has been keeping our affection move forward without mutual boredom.

One last point is “trademark” which is a key to our greatest fulfillment. Each one has gained him or her “sales tag”. The star, like Yao Ming, being tagged with “tall” or “patriotic”; Jay Chou, “music talent”, Bill Gates “computer genius”. When it comes to English masters: Li Yang, being “crazy”, Jiang Bo “Passionate”. These are their special ID----- their core value and are what people identify them instantly wherever they are.

Now, it is high time for each of youngsters to figure it out: on what value I’d like myself to be recognized. If you’ve found one, be determined to hold on to the last and make it perfect as possibly as you can; if you haven’t got one, create one ASAP.
