I read a true story named Who Can Pay for His Time this morning, which impresses me a lot.
The story happened in NewJersey in 1983.And the hero is a very kind guy called Franklin. One day when he prepared to go home after work, two detectives stoped him and said that he was suspected to have raped a young white women on Christmas Eve outside the mall.Franklin was stunned, because he never did what the detectives said.
Then a standard test of semen found in the victim's body matched Franklin's blood type.Although his mother and wife offered an alibi and pleading injustice,he finally got a 30-year sentence.
You should know there was no DNA test at that time.
Almost 10 years later, the NewJersay courts allowed DNA evidence in appeals,Franklin filed a petition for DNA testing of the biological evidence from the crime scene in his case.At last he was free because of innocence.
After leaving the prison,Franklin could adapt to the new life hardly. It was rearly not easy for a man who had lost 10 years during his life.He often kept himself in a small room without talking to anybody. And after plenty of years,he started to regain his confidence.
But who can pay for the time he lost?It is not about money. It is about the meaning of life.
