Tonight i watched the movie PIANIST
it's about the Polish pianist Szpilman, it's his period of life during WW2
the story started with him playing the piano in a radio studio, my god, although i'm a guy and i'm straight, i have to say he is so handsome, he really looks good enough to eat. He is like a European noble in the 14th century, but more elegant, and still more talented.
Then a bomb exploded near the studio though he tried to continue, the on-going bombs didn't let him...
then the Germans took the city of Warsaw, and drove the Jews to a restricted area. Szpilman and his family are all forced to the area where people often starve to death and the Germans can kill at will. It's the darkest age indeed, especially for the Jews. His family can barely survive there. The resource of income is his salary for playing the piano in a bar. people don't even know what music is about there.
shortly after, more tragic catastrophe happened . The nazi carried Jewish people on a train to wipe them out in a camp. And almost the whole Jewish town is exterminated except for only a few guys including Szpilman.
after that they are moved to another site to do the consuming work of building. And he was lucky enough to have fellow workers assigned him to a less tiring position. Then he managed to escape with the help of a relatively influential worker and some nice non-Jewish people. Life has been hard on the run, but somehow he is not dead.
after 3 or 4 years, one night when he was looking for food in a deserted building, a young German officer found him, he asked Szpilman who he was and what he was. A little shocked at the answer "pianist", he asked him to play the piano in the nearby room. Szpilman sat down in front of his beloved piano and the most beautiful sound flowed from his fingers. Although he is in dirty and filthy clothes, he still got the look of a pianist. The German officer was deeply touched by the music and spared him his life. He even brought some food for him and gave him a coat .
2 weeks later the Russian army liberated the city and a free man he is again. He lived to 88 and died peacefully in the year 2000.
i think the story is trying to tell us that however bad life may seem, there're always ways to survive, you just need to have faith.
and the world is beautiful, Szpilman could never have lived without the help of so many nice people. So we should always look at the bright side of life. it'll get better.
