Mr. Xu, our president, who is a very interesting, charismatic person. I clearly remembered the night of opening ceremony when I entered our school. He is nearly 70-year-old. That night, he sang Free Wings (隐形的翅膀), the most popular songs at that time. He sang loudly and clearly, and the melodious song let us to pursue our dreams. Is it the symbol of the new Peking University students having dreams to pursue, isn’t it? He also decisively demolished illegal structures in school for centuries, so the campus had a new image. On the top of that he was actually climbed the Mount Everest, in Tibet, he read the Declaration of freedom-loving life, and he also photographed hundreds of beautiful photos. He acknowledged that there was no the world famous universities in China at the General Assembly president in the world (世界校长大会). We were still far from this goal. There is no doubt that he must be full of courage to admit that. I worship our president, when he was in charge of our school, he was trying to open our school into academic, democracy and freedom, and to be a innovative new schools. When I graduated he retired, he left our message for each graduate: more thinking, more officers and less talk. I think it was the simplest language. Whenever I meet difficulties in my life, I will think of his courageous perseverance of Mr. Xu.
