A call for a world-wide campaign of energy-saving

        and carbon-reduction

Fifteen billion years ago “Big Bang” created the universe , which was followed by formation of the earth as well as beginning of life . Since then , man began to live and multiply on the planet . Superior to other species , man became the dominant through a series of evolution and intense competition. With the rapid development of civilization and production there was a steady increase in population . In order to survive and feed their young generation man has never stopped to take resources from nature as well as to make every effort to develop science and technology. Human activities, becoming not only frequent but also intense, have caused various problems of which global warming is the biggest . It is caused by emission of carbon into air .With rise of temperature on the earth the worsening environment has resulted in a fact that we can no longer see a clear distinction of the four seasons in many parts of the world . 

Environmentalists and scientists have confirmed that the process of industrialization and the use of vehicles are two main sources which emit quantities of carbon into the atmosphere of the earth , especially vehicles such as cars, shall be mainly responsible for it . Therefore , it is necessary to call for a world-wide campaign to save energy and reduce carbon . To one’s joy, the international community and organizations have called on all the countries to take measures , They are a making practical and efficient plan for how to reduce emission of carbon . At Copenhagen’s summit conference , every delegation from different countries was in effort to reach an agreement on approval of their respective amount of emission but in vain. Thus , to deal with energy–saving and emission-reduction remains a big challenge for human beings  .

Recent years of the sharp development of automobile industry has definitely added some difficulties to the program of energy-saving and emission-reduction. What remains to be discussed is how to solve the problem that the development of automobile industry and the achievement of the goal of emission-reduction are in a dilemma . As car manufacturers or individual purchasers , they shoulder a heavy burden of the program . Their positive mindset, their awareness of environment protection and their attitude towards emission-reduction are three main factors in carrying out the program .

First of all ,car purchasers should take it into consideration whether to buy cars is for practical use or just for fun or for show-off . For some people to have cars of their own exactly help them save much time while for some others  they buy cars just for entertainment or as a status symbol they think . As far as I know , all such purchasers take up a large percentage . When asked what they buy cars for, they would just argue that it is for much convenience because of no time for them to commute every day, even if they live not far from their work units . Actually their cars are little used . The fact that the number of buyers is increasing has proved that it is their cars that not only result in more heavy traffic especially in cities but also occupy parking lot , finally making limited space more crowded . Seriously , larger amount of released carbon raises the temperature as well as pollutes the air in turn . Their little awareness of their behavior is not conducive to environment protection .

Next , car manufacturers are encouraged , on one hand , to promote a technique reform of their production on their own ,on the other hand , to introduce foreign most advanced technique. The purpose is to make energy-saving cars and eco-friendly cars . The former makes it possible to make sure of a minimum of emission of carbon using a slightly little of energy . The latter , utilizing electricity instead of gas as their power ,  produces no carbon at all. At Beijing 2010 Automobile Expo there are such displays showing up , which caught visitors’ eye .We believe that such a version of car will replace an old one in no time flat .

Thirdly , car pool is currently universal practice . It means that several people share a car together . They drive their each other’s car in turn in the car pool . It turns out that there are many advantages , of which smaller emission is of greatest importance besides fewer expenses , less energy , relieved traffic and so forth. Car pool is quite popular among people without high income and people who like to make friends .

Fourthly , there is a need for an urge to more advocators of riding public transport means . In modern times land communications , sea traffic and air traffic form a system of advanced communication network , which provides people with convenient, fast and safe transportation services . Especially in cities it is suggested that more people choose public buses or decrease the hours and times of driving their private cars when they travel or commute . Their consciousness of responsibility surely contributes to strengthening others’ awareness of the serious problem along with its side effect global warming brings about .

Lastly , if possible , to walk or cycle to work is also a good choice , for no carbon is generated anywhere and at any time . Both of them are the most environmentally friendly , and furthermore , they build up doers’ health . Like other sports events , cycling is considered to be excellent sport and entertainment . Everyone , men, women , young and old like it and can do it easily due to bicycle’s low price and simple skills . Road Cycling races is absolutely an craze worldwide . Many themes of environment protection are concerned with cycling races .

In addition , what is thought to be a threat to energy-saving and carbon-reduction is those medium and small factories that discharge amounts of toxic smoke and gas . A necessary legislation makes a call for their closure .

Whatever measures are taken to deal with energy-saving and carbon-reduction , there is still a long way to go in overcoming global warming . As the saying goes , united we stand, divided we fall. Only all the countries in the world work together and strengthen their cooperation , global warming can be under control. We look forward to the return of “a refreshing spring”.
