Fire! Fire! Fire!

1424 views. 2010-11-17 15:38 |

Recently, lots of fire accidents happened nationwide, and the loss was countless, let alone the damage to families. The deplorable situation caused by fire has aroused public concern and discussion. All of the accidents also reflects people's neglect of fire prevention and mastering necessary skills of self-saving.

Lots of medias say: If those people knows the right way of escape from the fire, the death roll will be less. From now on, our country will make efforts to the fireproofing job, pay attention to increase Citizens'fire precaution awareness and intensify the training of fire safety in schools and units.

As an adult, we should know well the general knowledge about self-saving, such as cover our nose and mouth with wet towel in case we intoxicate by the heavy smoke; make the whole body wet to avoid getting hurt by the fire; we should bent down when running downstairs... ...

In our daily life, there are also so many things to keep in mind: remember to unplug all the power cable before we go to bed; keep our bathtub full of water; don't allow children play fire;don't let the emergency exit blocked... ...

In a word: You can never be too careful.

I just googled "how to escape from the fire"and find a lovely webpage" www.welephant.co.uk ", it offers some good advice as follows:

Fire Escape Plan:

Fire can be very frightening, but don't worry,I'm going to help you make your own Fire Escape Plan.
If a fire starts in your home you will be scared, but try very hard to stay calm. Having a Fire Escape Plan, so you know what to do if there is a fire, could save your life.

Fire Plan Part 1

If you are woken up by the sound of your smoke alarm or by the sound of what you think is fire, remember:

Stop--Think-Act
Stay calm. Wake all the members of your family.
Make your way out together, through the nearest exit.
Don't open any doors other than the ones you need to escape through.
If a door feels hot DO NOT open it.
When everyone is safely outside call the Fire Service from a public telephone or a neighbour's house.
DO NOT GO BACK TO THE HOUSE for any reason until the Fire Service tell you it is safe to return.

If the fire is blocking your way or your can't use the stairs for any reason, you must use the second part of your Fire Escape Plan.

Fire Plan Part 2:

In fires there is sometimes a lot of smoke. This can kill you.If you have to go through a smoke- filled hallway or room, get down on your hands and knees and crawl under it.

Get all the family into a room from where it would be safest to drop from a window, onto a flat roof or into the garden.
ALWAYS pass chilren down first. Never leave children until last.
Remember- never jump!
Lower yourself to arms length and then drop.
When everyone is out safely, find a telephone and dial the fire phone.

If you are trapped by smoke and cannot escape through a window, use part three of your Fire Escape Plan.

Fire Plan Part 3

If you are trapped in a room by smoke or fire, you need to try to stop smoke getting into the room.

Close the door.
Block any gaps into the room. Use towels, blankets or spare clothes.
If there is a telephone in the room dial the fire phone.
If there is no telephone,go to the window and shout for help.
Once you know you have been heard and help is on the way, stay near to the floor by the window. Smoke and heat rise so you are safer near to the ground.
If your windows are double glazed, use a heavy object and hit the window in a bottom corner. Make any jagged edges safe with a towel or blanket.

Always remember you must not stop to collect anything.
Fire is unpredictable.
NEVER take chances.
Get out! Call the Fire Brigade out! Stay out!

Everyone's home is different. You will need to have a Fire Escape Plan that suits your home.
Practice your Fire Escape Plan with your family,at home.It could help to save your lives.
