one assignment of my English class:
For a long time, pop star contests have become one of the hottest programmes in China. The contests enjoy a tremendous popularity for they provide a stage for ordinary people. However, I don’t like these programmes and I don’t think the young contestants can really realize their dreams.
Firstly, it’s not easy to be successful. There are millions of people taking part in the contests every year. While only a dozen of people from them can be the winners. Even if they get the prizes, most of the winners will be forgotten quickly. Newer stars will replace them.
Another reason for I don’t support these contests is most of them are made in low quality. It’s unbelievable that Nancy boys and Amazonian girls are fashionable trends in these contests. They will lead people to a misconception of beauty. The TV firms arrange a lot of silly tasks for the contests to catch the eye of viewers. These will not help the young to improve themselves.
Worse still, these contests may not discover real potential singers. One of the famous contestants-Zeng Yike, who sings so badly but has won a prize. The judges make decisions so subjectively and votes can be easily changed by the entertainment enterprises. There is not much fairness during this process.
In one word, realizing one’s dream is an arduous journey. Contests may not be the best way. But hard work is always the key to success.
