Does ‘Ghost’ Exist in White House?

669 views. 2010-6-17 21:06 |

I want to share with you one of my articles, which is a reflection of a news. The news as follow:

November 1, 2009

WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama on Saturday doled out presidential M&Ms and dried fruit mixes to more than 2,000 trick-or-treaters, marking their Halloween at a White House event partly aimed at honoring military families.

Dressed as superheroes, pirates, fairies and skeletons, the kids came in with their parents from Maryland, Virginia and Washington D.C., and lined up on the orange-lit White House driveway.

This is my reflection:

Furry cat ears, a leopard-patterned top, a chocolate-colored face but full of smile, the first lady dressed as a Catwoman appears in White House the minute that Halloween comes into White House with its mysterious superstition, its relaxed enjoyment as well as its harvest celebration. Most people in White House dressed in costumes attend the party. It is not the first Halloween in White House, but is President Obama’s first Halloween here. Although Obama is considered as a freshman in White House, he is using his powerful magic to comfort all Americans and the world.

To a degree, there are some similarities between Obama and Halloween. Halloween is such a tradition that has transpired through ages from one generation to another. However, its superstitious and religious overtones have been totally changed into a festival of children and a ridotto of youth by new additions and alterations. All of those demonstrate the same as the status of Black people in America. About one hundred years ago, Black people were always thought as the lowest class of society, and they had no right to interfere any political affairs. Despite the Emancipation Proclamation gave Black people a chance to get freedom, yet President Obama has brought a real carnival to all the Black people and has led a new road to all Americans.

This year, President Obama shows a new style of celebrating for all the people. Halloween can be a festival combining the fashionable style with the traditional customs. Regarding to Obama, Halloween is really a festival to harvest. During the past year, he earned a lot more votes than Hillary Clinton who has a lot of women supporters so as to earn the right to fight in the final battle, and he won a triumph over McCain. Further more, he updated a lot of new policies to deal with the financial crisis. Before the Halloween, he received a present of trick-or-treat in advance, which is the Noble Peace Prize. Halloween is also a holiday to change people’s mind to recall an honor. Everyday Obama is obliged with a lot of pressures and criticisms, but in Halloween Obama dressed in casual clothes, expressing his gratitude to the military families. Halloween is not only a ridotto, and it should be a holiday to harvest, to recall the past and to honor the dead.

There a saying goes that ‘To set a thief to catch a thief’. If the constant obstacles can be compared to the ghosts, we can find that the White House has invited the king of ghosts; however, what the king brings is not the evilness, but the goodness. Halloween will not be the end of Obama’ magic, but it will become a new start.
