The birth of the first female President of Kyrgyzstan

According to report on July 2,Kyrgyzstan’s Central Election Commission announced that referendum vote showed that the new draft constitution received 90.55% support rate. This means that Kyrgyz interim government’s Roza Otunbayeva will become the country’s transitional president.Otunbayeva will become the first female leader of the Central Asian countries.

Otunbayeva’s personal profile:

Otunbayeba was born on August 23,1950. She graduated from Moscow University in 1972. Her major was philosophy. And later she served as six years of senior professior and head of the departmnet of philosophy in Kyrgyz National University. She has a stable marriage and two children.

Her political career bagan in 1981.In 1922,the second year after Kyrgyzstan’s independence, she served as ambassador to the U.S. In 1944, she was appointed the foreign minister, became the country’s first and only female foreign minister. But she resigned in 1977. She was ambassador to the United Kingdom from 1988 to 2001. In 2004 she returned to the country and established the AtaDzhurt party. She was ready to compete for the second year of the election, but lost to Akayev. But this time, she successfully becomes the interim president. Otunbayeva announced yesterday that she would serve as the interim president for 6 months.

I think Otunbayeva is a very powerful and politically ambitious woman. She has advanced degrees and rich political experience. But she also faces unprecedented challenges. Because a large number of former government supporters have gradually arrived at the capital. The confrontation is serious and hair-trigger fight may occur at any time.
