Nikki Schiro is a native New York emerging artist. Her studies in art include an M.F.A. (2006) and B.F.A. (2002) from Hunter College, NY, as well as the Saturday Outreach Program (1997) at Cooper Union College for the Advancement of Fine Art. She was also a recipient of a scholarship from the National Organization of Italian American Women in 2003

Nikki was nominated for 3-6 month Artist Residency in Chengdu China for 2010, where she will spend the summer and fall dedicated to finishing a new body of work, experiencing the culture and people of Chengdu, and mentoring graduate students from Sichuan University 2-3 hours a week. She also maintains her artist residency with the Creative Center, that she’s held since 2008.

Nikki was also commissioned in 2010, to make a painting for the Phillips Beth Israel School of Nursing. She has also been actively exhibiting artwork nationally. (Please see CV for details)

In addition to relentlessly making her own artwork, Nikki is very interested in the Healing and Collaborative aspects of Art. She is the Artist in Residence for Oncology/Hematology at Roosevelt Hospital, a residency of the Creative Center. She is an active member of the all-women contemporary artist collective tART and the Latin collective Propuesta 5. She is also a contributing writer for www.artcomments.com.

In 2009, Nikki began to curate exhibitions using primarily artwork from her artist community. She teamed up with Jo Q.Nelson and Anna Lise Jensen to become “Seasonal Coalition”, based on mutual interest in mixing up public, private and functional aspects of exhibition spaces. Nikki has also partnered with Frederic Ozaneaux to create “Ozaneaux Showroom”, a space in the heart of the NY Gallery District, where she has been curating shows for artist peers.

Nikki is a member of Team Fox, a charity team for Parkinson's Disease Research, the New York Road Runners and Green Storm Racing. She has run the 2007 New York City Marathon, the 2009 Queens and NYC half marathons, the 2010 NYC Triathlon and 2010 Philadelphia Marathon, raising money for Parkinson's Disease Research and the Creative Center.
