The Aftershock

There has been a blockbuster released on 22nd July which caused a huge influence on Chinese people’s mind. It’s said that almost everyone wept after seeing the film because it is so moving and touching. The title of this film is The Aftershock. This film is directed by the distinguished master Feng Xiaogang, this film is adapted by a well-known novel----aftershock and 2010 is the 32nd year of the disastrous earthquake occurred. In fact, Mr Feng already wanted to film this story in 2008 but Wen Chuan earthquake happened and he doesn’t want to hurt the people’s feelings ao he decided to postpone it. Now the timing is perfect, therefore Mr Feng presents the incomparable masterpiece and its astonishing promise to reach 500 million RMB revenue.

       This film is mainly talking about the devastated 7.8 magnitude earthquake in Tang Shan and what did it change the life of Tang Shan citizens. It is an ordinary family, Li Yuanni and her husband Fang Daqiang. They just got their kids the electric fan that their children had been craving for a very long time, they could enjoy a little breeze in the hot summer night. At the middle of the night, the people were falling asleep, suddenly the ground began shocking the building seems like falling apart. People were shrieking and shouting for help, Yuanni and her husband were outside at this time and they realized that their children were still at home. Yuanni rushed into their home in no time and she even ignored what hes husband said, her husband died in the earquake but she had no time to think about it, her son and daught were the only thing on her mind. When she found her childre were pressed by the solid rock, what’s more, she had to choose to save one instead of two, otherwise they were both dead. She was crushed that she even cursed the god why he was doing this to her. At last she chosed to save her son over her daughter but the son lost one arm. It kept raining that day, surprisingly the daughter didn’t die and she was saved and adopted by a military officer.

       In the following years, there are a lot of changes between the daughter in the adopted family and her mother’s family. The daughter couldn’t get along with her new dad and mom and was even abandoned by her boyfriend after she got pregnant. She was terrified and didn’t trust anyone any more. She couldn’t understand why her beloved mother chose to save her brother over her, maybe this was exactly the reason why she was so miserable. Several years later, she was married and moved to Canada and the Wen Chuan earthquake happened, she saw the same situation occurred to a mother, the delimma, the desperation, all of a sudden. She finallt thought it through, so she went back to China to be a volunteer to help them to rebuild their wounded heart. She also met her brother, finally she could ga back to the place that brought her so much pain. When she stood in front of her grave and saw all the things her mother had prepared for her, she forgave her mother .

        The Aftershock is more than a film as far as I am concerned. It is a kind of communication to our soul, you’ ll cry easily after the film, it’s also a relif to us. This film makes us understand what hurts the most. It’s not what we have lost phsically, it’s the mentally wound. It also occurs to us that this is a nation full of love, even some random person will give you a hand if you are in trouble. That’s the most important feeling in the world.
