Last semester, I was given the opportunity of being a secretary of fine arts department for Literary Institute. Since I have worked for Student Union for two years, I was confidently clear about the routines and the schemes in this department. So, at the beginning, I was competent in the discharge of my duties.
However, as it is said, “Something unexpected
may happen any time.” I was informed of a big task by my teacher one day, and I
knew he placed a lot of hope on it. Of course, it was a evening party, held two
months later, including cross talk, singing, dancing…various
styles of performance. But there was one requirement that annoyed me a lot,
which was, making friends with overseas students in our college and inviting
them to our party. Frankly speaking, I was shocked at that time. I was afraid I
would screw it up while I could not shift my responsibility to anyone else. I persuaded
myself being positive and then started working.
I, fortunately, got the support from my team and
my friends. We discussed over our initial plan, though it was turned down by
our teacher several times, we made efforts to make it perfect, as detailed as
it could be. Then I distributed the work to everyone in the team, basically
according to their characters and forts. Needless to say, the process was time-consuming
and bedeviling. We had to supervise the rehearsal and make up the stage
settings all on our own. What’s more, I took initiative to assume the
responsibility of communication with foreign students. Thanks to our
university, it did not take much time to get contact with them. The only
problem is, how can I begin my speech? What can I do for them if asking them to
our party? Would they accept that? I had a butterfly in the stomach.I made an attempt to invite them, showing my
gratitude and kindness. Despite of some failures, I found that the majority of
them are friendly and desirable to show their talent. I enjoyed the conversation
with them, memorable indeed.
As time flies, the deadline was drawing on. We
checked our scheme everyday to make sure nothing was out of control. Once our
suggestion was denied, we endeavored to find another one, as we always did,
never surrender. In my memory, that was the toughest time I went through during
my college. We often stayed up late to revise our procedures or to do graphic
design. It was the spirit of team work that propped up me to insist on to the
end.
After two-month preparation, our party was a great success. When the closing music was playing, I burst out crying. Because I was set free, I could eventually get rid of the heavy mental pressure. It was glamorous time, wasn’t it? I realized that I gained applause, I gained friendship, I gained skills, and the most important, I gained commendable memory and experience in my life. Thanks for everybody who lent me a hand before; I really appreciate your understanding and assistance. Lucky as I am, I have all you around.
