Uncle Sam in my eyes

525 views. 2010-10-26 15:33 |

As you all know, Uncle Sam is the symbol of Americans. We are a generation grown up amidst heated Hollywood blockbusters and prevailing NBA games, as a consequence, our culture is definitely influenced by this most developed country. Many youths may think US mysterious and exciting, hoping to go abroad or travel to America very much, of course I am among them. Now I’d like share some of my notions with you.

As far back as four months ago, it was my first time to talk to an American, he is old man from Seattle, retired and being teaching in my University. Now we have become friends and know each other well. From the contact with him and what he told me, I got a vivid image of the so called “Uncle Sam”. America is religious nation and most of its civilians are Christian. The bible teaches people to be kind and honest, however, there is still a high rate of crime throughout their land everyday. For this reason, my friend doesn’t believe in God any more. I was quite surprised cause he was a Christian months ago. Not all Americans are pious Christian. Americans are outgoing and humorous. They always kid around. Thus I feel really comfortable when I am with them. “You take life too seriously”. My friend often said to me when he failed to lighten me up. Most Americans are private. Yet, the “comfort zone” in China is closer than that in America. In United States, it’s hard to find girls walking hand in hand on the street. They seldom talk about life, while talking a lot about daily stuff. On some aspects, this contributes to their independent character. They adore idols, yearn for success and expect to pursue happiness by themselves. While being private to life, Americans are open to sex. In American universities, teenagers study hard, much more that Chinese students. However, they also enjoy life hard. On Saturday, a lot of parties are being held, they drink and proposition each other. America now remains the most prosperous and powerful nation on earth. The way they work differs from ours. They are much serious of their jobs. Independent as they are, no less responsibilities and earnestness have been shown through their work.
