From Super Girl to Happy Boy, from My Hero to China's Got Talent, talent shows are getting increasingly popular among China's national and local TV programs. In recent years, however, a heated discussion has been aroused about whether this sort of show is vulgar and should be banned. As far as I'm concerned, the talent show fever is inevitable and there's no need to forbid it.
To begin with, these talent shows offer common people chances to voice their minds and show their personality. In the past, only stars can be seen on TV shows. Currently, as media develops, people's wish to be in public grows. Ordinary persons like schoolteachers, housewives, teenagers, senior citizens are free to showcase their talents in singing, dancing, doing magic, or imitating celebrities. Some can even turn super stars overnight. In this regard, the talent shows perfectly meet the needs of the common, especially those who have gifts to show, desire to compete and courage to be on stage.
Besides, with talent show fever sprouting among national and local channels, the programs have become a kind of popular culture. As a way of entertainment, they help the audience get relaxed and improve their awareness of art, enriching leisure life. They become one of the topics among youths and reflect the trend of fashion. The impact can be strongly felt from a small piece of commercial on a product to a big headline in a newspaper.
What's more, the winners' success does not grow on trees. Some people hold the view that every champion has his own right to decide what to do after the talent show and that not every star can maintain his renown merely by one excellent performance. Having learned the stories behind every success, people come to realize that one needs to make great efforts in pursuit of dreams. The talent show is just a stage; it's the contestant's spirit that gives the meaning.
To conclude, the talent shows in China can not only reflect what's popular in this fast-paced society to some extent, but also satisfy common people's needs of gaining reputation, showing talents, expressing ideas and fulfilling dreams. From where I stand, the talent show fever is acceptable to most people, and instead of banning the programs, the government can help develop them in a better direction. Give it a shot, and we may become next talents.
