sugar price ↑

599 views. 2010-10-24 11:05 |

These days, I got a news that the price of sugar will have a rise from web. As we all see, the mung bean had rose its price last year, then the garlic followed bean’s step. Even if common people could understand that what happened to the real estate, the situation of daily necessities’ higher and higher price is beyond us.

Daily necessities, including beans, sugar and garlic, are composed with daily vegetables, meats like pork and chicken, grains and spices. Though I ‘m not a housewife, I have felt the price up from the dining halls of our university. As a student whose major regarding agriculture, I felt obliged to concern this question.

I think there are 3 aspects should be counted in this case. First of all, the international influence. You must have heart the Korea pikled vegetables crisis occurred nearly a month ago. Nowadays, every country in the world is facing such the rise in prices. Secondly, the more money we earn, the more money we spend. Such is economic nature ,that market keeps a balance between income and expense. Above all, the decrease of agriculture lands and extrem weather contributed to the high prices, as a result of production declines.

The importance of agriculture has been paid attention since the daily necessities’ price up. Seen from this angle the rise of prices is not so bad. As far as I known, there are at least 100 million of people are starving to death. But there is another group, almost as large, who waste food unconsciously everyday.

Good point and serious warning to us all. The past many countries faced hunger and poverty. Now it is happening again in another way. We cannot affort the daily food. Prices are rising constantly and I have seen foodstuff prices double in a short period. There are more people to feed and less fields for agriculture. Crops fields are being over fertilised by chemcials damaing the soil permanently. The problem facing people for the next 50 years would be expensive housing and food shortage. We would be using all our efforts on living needs, therefore could not enjoy normal life.
