east and west

When it comes to the Chinese traditional festival ,very few of us have a good knowledge. On the contray,we take western festivals seriously. We buy chocolates and roses on Valentine's day and celebrate the Christmas day. Today is Halloween and some friends of mine gather together to discuss whether they should dress up as ghosts to play some tricks on others. It is good, but I am a little sad, because when I asked them to climb the mountains on the Double Ninth Festival, they would rather sit in front of the computers.
We often admire that foreign people are so romantic and western culture is so charming. But sometims we just neglect our native culture. Take my experience for example, I once attended to a party in the open air on Easter. I was fully confused when Amy took many eggs and something like ink out of her bag. At that time, I had no idea what foreigners do to celebrate Easter. So I asked her what we were going to do. Then she told me the origin of the Easter and Easter eggs. She said that eggs are the symbol of new lives and the symbol of  Easter as well. People usually decorate eggs to the memory of Jesus. And then we began to decorate eggs with colored dye. I really appreciated the unique idea to decorate eggs and the eggs made by Amy and her friends were so beautiful. I was wondering why there was no similar activities in China. But this point proved to be wrong, for it did exist in ancient times in China. According to a book which is about Chinese traditional festival, it says that our ancestors had an egg painting custom on Tomb-Sweeping Day. The painting skill was difficult and the procedures were complex. But the painted eggs were precise and beautiful. They were considered to be artwork. It is a pity  that we cannot see them nowadays.
As we know, there are so many differences between culture of the east and west. But from my experience, I find the common thing between China and Western countries. In my opinion,we shouldn't have a prejudice aginst western culture, but we shouldn't adore it blindly either. And what is more important,we should treasure our traditional culture.

Most of the time, we regret for what we lose but not we own. Chinese should pay more attention to our culture protection and acient arts.
