A Relaxing Trip to Wuyi

750 views. 2011-10-30 15:46

The pace of life has been getting faster in China. We are actually pushed ahead by the big waves of the social development. Consequently, health problems may occur, both physically and mentally. We do need to actively adapt ourselves to this challenge of life. One way to address this problem is to break the daily routine, traveling to a well-chosen tourist attraction. We can not lead a life constantly under pressure, after all.

Recently we had a relaxing trip to Wuyi(武义) after the school sports meet was over. Wuyi is located in the center of Zhejiang Province, southeast of Jinhua. It is a relatively less developed area, but with a distinct advantage other places are hard to compare and compete with: its ecological environment.

We set off at 1: 30 the day before yesterday, on 28th of this month, and arrived at its capital at about 4: 30 pm. The journey was comfortable, for most of time we were on the expressway. After having dinner, we went directly to Tangfen Hot Spring, which boasts one of the best in China.

I was surprised to see so many “ponds” in the open air. Some of them have a pavilion, but still outdoors. In the beginning I was wondering if the water was truly spring water and how they managed to keep so much water warm, and some of them were actually very hot! The waitress nearby told me the water was pumped up from underground about 300 meters deep. There’re many kinds of pool-bathing: milk, coffee, angelica(当归), ginseng(人参), Ganoderma lucidum(灵芝), mint, just to name a few. There’s one place where you can lie on the warm marbles, which is really relaxing. And you can have a massage at the same time if you want to.

The next day we went to a scenic spot called Dahongyan, meaning big red rock. This area is famous for its typical Danxia landform. The name comes from the huge red precipice, which is more than 300 meters high and 650 meters wide. The mountain is not very high, but a little steep. However, it is worthwhile because on the way up you can see various views, which are truly natural and all unique in its own way. Having been in the hustle and bustle of the city life for so long, you would feel especially relaxed, being able to feel so close to nature with thick refreshing air. I always believe what we need to escape from daily busy life is distant mountains and the streams among them with few human traces.

Indeed we need to unwind once in a while and escape to some slow and nice places away from the hustle and bustle of our cities. Wuyi seems to be an interesting place and I should go there for a visit soon. It is now on the world list of world historical sites. I don't know how it is but it seems exciting to take a raft trip down the Nine-bend River. I also often hear about the "Thread of Sky" caves, where the narrowest walkway is only 30 cm wide.  Wuyi is also famous for it's world renowned Oolong tea. Hope you have bought some so that we can sip this famous tea and talk about various things when I have the chance to visit you.. haha.

You look so relaxed and refreshed in the photos and I believe you must have enjoyed the visit to Wuyi. So nice of you to let us know about your visit to this place and share the photos with us. Cheers.

hi, sunny! seems long time no see. still busy with your business? i do think of you. so nice to see you here again. yes we do have a very nice trip to Wuyi. however, i guess you made a mistake. more exactly it was me who didn't make it clear enough. i was talking about Wuyi county (武义县)in Zhejiang province, not Wuyi mountain(武夷山) in Fujian province.
you're always welcome here at my place, as i said before. i have never tasted Oolong tea, but i think Longjing tea is as famous. hope you can see my house with your own eyes in the near future. best wishes.

Now that you have posted your picture, I can recognize you when I meet you in the street. As a teacher, you really look the part! I am also curious how the monkey cave picture was taken to get that effect. You photoshoped it?

Good to know your trip to such a beautiful place! You guys are quite hand of travellers. Years ago, I paid a visit to Wuxi, too. But none of the places of interest you mentioned above was included in my itinerary. What most impressed me was Taihu Lake, which was, as expected, overwhelmingly crowded. How I envy you and your truely relaxing and enjoyable trip!

yes we all enjoyed the trip. we have a short distance travel annually, and a long one every three years. how about your school? teaching is a demanding job and what we need is an easy and relaxing distraction from the daily routine. i have been to Taihu before. places of that kind are usu crowded, esp in the summer season. have a good day, my friend!

It seems that your school offers nice welfare to you teachers. We have a short distance annually, too, mostly inside Jiangsu Province. As to long distance trip, my only memory is the one to Sichuan back in 2004.
