Having been living in this world for more than half of my lifetime, sometimes I feel I know quite well of human nature. However, again and again reality forces me to realize that you’re far from truly understanding what human nature is. Some recent incidents made me a little upset, to tell the truth. Generally I would not lose temper over whatever problems that arise in life, but this kind of incidents does make me disappointed. I don’t want to go into details, though. The point is that I did all I could to help others or do my job well, but still people may not think well of you in spite of the fact that you did it for the good of them, even when they actually benefit from it.
Humans are all emotional, whether they are adults or children. That is, we are more influenced by our perception than reason. When teaching emphatic sentences, I often cite this phrase: It is not what you said but the way you said it that matters. I used to believe I knew what it means. Now, however, I seem to have a better understanding of this. People all like to hear good words, hoping to be recognized even though they sometimes don’t deserve them. In other words, if you criticize or complain or just point out the existing problems, you may as well be prepared for negative reaction or backlash.
I don’t know if I’m getting a little closer to the core of human nature. It is said that the process of living is a process of getting an insight into human nature. And it seems to be an endless pursuit. When we say it’s human nature, the implied meaning behind it is that it is something unavoidable or unchangeable, though it may not necessarily desirable.
