Quite experienced, but not respectable

714 views. 2012-2-8 09:26

I respect those people who own rich experiences in our industry, but he has to at least have a good personality which would win my respect.
Experience, in this field, is the top one important factor that a competent person should have. I have been working in this industry for nearly 8 years since the graduation, but I am still a young boy compared with those 40's age in this company, as a result, I always energize myself to learn from them and would like to ask questions whenever possible.
There is one 45-years-old senior trainer who are quite experienced with electrical, every time when I ask him a question, he would talk too much and circle for half an hour then come to the point, in this case I am totally sweaty. his tone is sort of soft, but the arrogance just jumps from this words. I tried many times to interupt him but I stopped because I didn;t want to ruin the relationships between us, however, I respect his knowledge, but not his personality.

It is natural to be selfish and self defensive. Then believe that it took them a long time to gain their experience and why should they let you get it so easily without hardship. Most people tend to safeguard and keep what they have learnt, but it is often not necessary to be selfish. It is just like waves on a big river, one push another forward and that is how the world goes round. Have patience and respect for his experience and he would likely let you have what you want.

usually , perfect is hardly found in this world. actually we are all exploring the life's truth through ourselves' different experiences and we are richening our different personality at the same time.

yes, who isn't, but this is not what I was disliking, I really really respect his experiences and would like to regard him as my elder brother and learn from him, but it seems that every time when I go to him, it is so easy for me to get the direct answer, I have to pay enough patience to his words for half an hour or one hour for just several simple words of answer.

Call it self-defence in work field or whatever the word came into your mind, it's annoying, but I guess it's natural response. Yesterday, I asked one of my colleague about a question toward some system I first worked with, to my surprise she actually snapped at me with a very impatient and vague answer like" just there, find it for yourself." You know we are always good, at least on the surface. we have lunch together, we share gossips, joys and sorrows of our life stories, I always see her as my friend. So I don't expect that response. But on the other hand, perhaps I should not be surprised. There is an reorganization, and things go a bit tricky. and i ask myself: does everytime I tell everything I know about my work to my colleagues when they ask me? Do I always share everything? Honestly, the answer is No. perhaps sub-consciously, i treat them as my competitors. Selfish or not, that's not about personality, but the impulsive to protect our own ass. Sorry, for my language. Good luck
