Nearly forgot when I first time came up to Starbucks, should be in my previous company, where Starbucks was contracted to operates a small cafe. Whenever I was tired or depressed, I would like to break into it and order a cold Moca. Sometimes I also invited several collegues there and chatted a while. That small cafe soon became my rest place like a harbor. I guess, from then on, I burst into a favor into Starbucks and this favor continued until now.
I travelled a lot, and each business travel would take me more than months. So in a strange city where I am a totally stranger, Starbucks is definitely becoming a good friend which I count on. I couldn't remember how many weekends I spent in Starbucks in Beijing, Shenzhen, Shanghai, Tianjin, etc, but I am sure this kind of life will keep going on in the near future.
However, Starbucks, as an international chain store giant, has the same culture and coffee products in the whole China, the people in Starbucks in different cities are different, some are quiet, but some are noise-makers. One of the reasons I like to stay in Starbucks is the nice environment it provides, but if it is noisy, I would quit and find another one.
Starbucks may not provide the most wonderful coffee in the globe, but it is surely the winner in the coffee chain business. I read a book ever, I forgot the name, which talked about a very popular coffee store in Seattle. The fans there would stand in the rain for hours for just waiting for a cup of Latte. That is of course a very respectful and successful business, at least it wins certain amount of people. I am dreaming to own a cafe like that.
