I am not quite clear about these taboos of choosing a Thai name, if there were any.
At least, I see no problems with them.
Ho~~Am I over-confident? Probably not.
Given Name----สนิท-ยิน /sani[t]-yin/-------Saint Yin
Nickname----ซัน/san/------San
{"Saint" is a common Thai male or female given name whose meaning is "close, intimate".
It has the same pronunciation with the loadword "Saint",
and most of loadwods which has "San" or "Sun" so do.
The letter "t" is nearly voiceless, at least, I hardly tell them from each other.
Originally, there is a common word, means "girl, woman",has the same pronounciation as my surname.
However, when put the first name and last name together......Yes, it has an odd meaning.
A little funny, I thought and I didn't like it at all, so I chose this one.
It means "to be pleased",but I was supprised by its another meaning:
"Thai transcription of the foreign loanword, 'gin'.
"}
At first, I named myself "๓"/saam/ "(สาม)"
Yes, you are so clever, it is the Thai digit three.
'cause my friends call me "3~~~" in Chinese too.Hoho~~
However, as a tonal language just like Chinese, the tone is troublesome.
Although they have the same meaning and a similar pronunciation,
For a different tone, this word made me feel a little queer.
And, it sounds like the English name:"Sam"...
I like the name "Samuel" whose nickname is "Sam",
But it is always a male name, isn't it?
In fact, I don't care the gender at all.
Transliterate them as much as possible, and have a special and wonderful meaning will be better.
Generally speaking,I felt satisfied.
