First time for acupuncture therapy

It has been a quite long history and eminent for China of the acupuncture and herb medicine. As a native Chinese, I have never found its value until I have sojourned abroad, and seen how prosperous of the acupuncture and herb medicine business along the streets of city, of course, mainly gathered near the Chinatown.

Nor have I thought that, one day, I may encounter this magic experience, until last weekend  when I was invited to pat a visit to Lorna, who has immigrated here 50 years ago, and got PhD degree in bio-science, and plus, she was an owner and practitioner of acupuncture for 15 years, just quited the business when she thought too old to continue. But still, some of her loyal patients insisting on therapy in her home.

"you look not good" she said when we first met, " are there something wrong with you?" I admitted that I got a chronic sinusitis which led to the unbearable pain in my head for a long time.

"Well, if so, acupuncture therapy shall be a good way to release the symptom, have you ever tried it in China?"

She looked surprised when I said never, then suggested that i shall have a try. Noticing my fearful emotions, she said, it is not pain at all, but feeling of a prick like being stuck by a flying.

"Well, how about this, next time, when you come, I'll give you a try"

Here was the outcome of my first attempt. I've never known what she exactly did on my body, the acupoints called Xie in Chinese, believed the junctures when different meridians meet where flows, the Qi, running with. I did not feel anything except a little prick as she described, sheerly affordable pain.

The whole therapy continued about two hours, most of the key acupoints, from the head called Tianting, to the feet. I believed that when the needles were put into the point, she must twirl the needle with high speed back and forward which required high skills. Once I heard when I was in China, that the patient felt painful during the treatment, I guess it was because of the doctor's personnel poor skills, or they may have used large sized needles, Lorna explained my doubts.

By and large, it was a good experience, but that's all, for I did not intend to try in China, not because of the treatment no good, but not sure how carefulness the Chinese doctor will treat me.
