When I was at collage, one day I took an English class. The teacher was a professor from Jilin University, she was at her 60s. That was the school time I took every calss seriously, so it was the same I did in her class. Maybe most students did not find it interesting, they began to talk in low voice, and some were even whispering and giggling. The teacher stopped to overlook us from her platform, obviously she was not that happy. Then she probably thought it not good to anger, in minutes, she recovered her facial expression as usual, as if nothing happened. This made us feel abnormal, because, in most cases, she would exclaim again and again should everyone require the attitude of all his focus on the class other than small talk. Then she spoke to us in a gentle voice, "I hope that everyone of us is going to have a bright future. Now I tell you a story about one of my high school classmates."
Here is the story.
The English teacher was studying hard and enrolled, finally rewared her doctor's degree. While one of her high school classmates failed in the examination entrance of university. From then on, they went for different lifes. The teacher started her English teaching career while her classmate was only to work in a state owned enterprise, and later became an old housewife after retirement.
Due to familiy difficulties, as an old housewife, she felt burden from expenditure. She and her husband both had to undertake some side work to make extra money. They did not want to bother their two sons too much, since the sons were also leading the simple life and there was no more the old couple could rely on.
One day the old lady felt enough with her life, thought could not keep this situation all the time. She believed in the only way to change was to study by herself. Then she started to do that. The hardship can shudder most of us, not mention to an old lady who never learnt it before. But she meant it, and just did that anyway by putting all her energy in the study. In the beginning, she learnt how to pronounce, and later, went to remember words, master grammar and some other knowledge.
Years later, there was a recruitment of a German interpretor from FAW-Volkswagen (a state owned joint venture car manufacturer in Changchun, Jilin Province), she won in the final round among a group of German majored competitors who graduated from foreign language shcool. She worked in five months for several mechanical enginners from Germany in the workplace for translation job and was paid about 50,000 RMB which was really a huge amount for her.
End of the story, my English teacher was then to tell us again, about cherishing golden time we had in hands. Now I still remember the story-It is real and also can be real if you want to be something.
