Cousin was always considered the luckiest person in our big family in that she was born with a silver spoon in the mouth and from the moment she came into this world money has never caused a row for her.
At the age of 13, she asked questions like “Mummy, where did you buy the milk, the toys, the sun, blah, blah, blah? To her way of thinking, anything there is could be gotten by one who pays for it. Young as she was, she had a lot of things which most children had ever possessed of when they were her age, and those seemed to be her exclusive use as she was the apple of her parents, so that her requests, big or small, could always be met with no rebuffs, not even once. All that she had, to a great extent, has encouraged her to form an idea that money is nothing if not important.
The changing seasons marked the passing of time. She got older, and the older she grew, the more she loved money. Little by little, she became a person whose minds was clogged with the notions of “money talks”, and one who spent money like water. However excellent the school she was sent to, she never cherished the chance she had which happened once in a blue moon. Much to her mother’s disappointment, she was rusticated due to the poor performance she had gotten in each of her exams. Up till then did her mother come to know that she was badly spoiled by money, and she must do something to change the way her daughter treated money. But it was nothing less than to lock the stable door after the horse has bolted. It was too late, wasn’t it ?
Her mother did something indeed, withnotstanding, in vain all turned out. What cousin did was simply to date boys of rich family backgrounds and keep up with Joneses, changing boyfriends as frequently as that of clothes, whenever the boy ran short of money, unluckily, then it came to his turn to be ditched.
Racking aunt’s mind, she could not figure out a plan which was good enough to wean cousin off the thought that money is everything to her. At her wit’s end, aunt couldn’t choose but to tell her the fact she had kept for years, that cousin was adopted. Fling herself on the bed, cousin gave way to misery. She sobbed out she wanted to see her real mother. After aunt’s hard-working-find, finally came cousin’s real mother. They embraced each others and could really hit it off. The other day, day broke, cousin was gone with her birth mom. Before night fell, however, cousin had raced back to her adopted mother, my aunt, with her saying that that woman was too poor to raise her and she just went back on the right track and wanted to start her life over. As we all know, promise is always easy to make, but hard to keep, though. She showed her true colors as she was the next day.
Now aunt is far from painful and she has the foggiest about the future.
Is the saying “money talks” really working out ? Yes or no, either way, I guess aunt knows that best. because cousin has proved it with her doings.
