Similar to The Prestige, Inception began with the ending part of the story. Briefly, the story is about the mission, inception, of the protagonist who set up a team, cabaled, slept on the plane for nine hours, sneak in dreams, finally completed the mission and got home to see his children.
Nolan established a world in dream. He applied
a failed action as ice breaking and showed us the dream world’s rules in the
process of setting up the team, which took nearly an hour. In the rest one and
a half hours, the team completed a conspiracy via a quadruple dream under the
rules.
I really admire the imagination of the director.
Time passes quicker in the dream than real world; characters in subconscious
will become true in the dream; dream builders can design the scenes of the dream;
all of these made people feel astonished but reasonable. Most important, Nolan
proposed the concept of "dream in the dream", which hooked the film up
wonderfully and perfectly.
Nolan led his team moving around the world, presenting universe in the dreams. Stormy sea and beach, the hall crisscrossed with vertical pillars and horizontal girders, city in rainstorm, weightless hotel, snow field with hidden dangers, abandoned buildings... Infinite scenes created in the dream were presented one by one on the screen. It seems that Nolan prefers film images with similar features--- the surreal under a cold and dark tonal.
As “The Matrix version of Mission Impossible”,
besides powerful sci-fi elements, action in Inception, such as gunplay and
chasing, is also a high-light. One exciting scene is the combating in the spin
hall, which the two team put up a good fight with the constant change of
gravity.
In terms of special effects, Nolan always surprise
us. When the whole city folded over, allowing characters moving via the right angle directly to the other side, I really shocked by the transcendence of
physical laws. The music, which is huge and majestic, following the rhythm of
the film tightly, is another large point of the film. I already downloaded the OST.
With going into another dream in the dream,
the film came to the climax at the end via the multi-thread narrative as Nolan’s
idiomatic expression. Quadruple dreams with four main lines, interwoven into the
climax at a break-neck speed. When the van came down slowly, get ready to meet
the last race? Hereat the acme of applying parallel montage.
Inceptin had a perfect open mode ending
which is, just a great film required, thinking inductive and thought-provoking.
Did the thud really exist? We may only say "perhaps".
If the hypothesis at the end is proved, the film established quintuplicate dreams. The film itself is the art of dreaming, namely, the reality in a film is a dream in the reality, so what the spectators experienced is the sixth-fold dream. However, to delve into the connotation of this film, as the old man's lines, "reality is a dream, isn’t it?" We all think we live in reality, but the gyro reminded us that reality and dream may be only one step away .
The seventh-fold dreams, is Nolan’s
philosophy. "Give you two minutes, design a maze to be solved in one
minute. " , this is the entrance exam setted by the protagonist for the
dream builders. Nolan, as the creator of all, designed of a maze with a sevenfold
dream, making us exclaim over the strict system, the magnificence and the
delicacy, and the deep intension.
It is the self-contained movie that requests the screen to prove its charm, that will be delighted with and be discussed about for long. Inception by Christopher Nolan, a rare masterpiece.
