Modern civilization

Hot 4672 views. 2013-7-28 22:47 | anything, cultural, heritage, national, present

We can't deny the cultural and social advancement up to the present. But I fail to find anything representative that can outshine those in the past. In the intellectual field, can anyone in the modern era oust Confucius in thinking or Wang Xizhi in calligraphy As for the buildings and sculptures, what can we leave to our descendants which can match up to the Great Wall and the Terracotta Army of our national heritageWith regard to morality, it has degraded to an unprecedented level. You may retort me by presenting the advanced modern technology in telecommunication and medical treatment. Don't we often notice that people chat away by phone Don't you think the poisonous environment a scratching satire on the medical worldSo I'm puzzled whether our civilization is progressive or retrogressive.

My answer is, the civilization is retrogressive, especially the morality. People can do anything to make money.

You got a point there, but everything is give and take in this modern world. People had to break their backs, sell their own hard labor just to have a decent meal. Nowadays people benefit from modernisation and technology. On the other hand, people are now known as the "bowing generation" where they hold their heads down tapping away on their cellphones and don't have much face to face contact. Everything is electronic or electrical. There are certain benefits to modernisation, but the price is a bit too high. We have lost all those human contacts. People are getting overweight due to lack of physical activity. People on wheels more than walking. Nature never intended us to be like that.

It is quite a common attitude that people  think what they live   in is the worst epoch that hardly others ever experienced. For example, people who lived in the period of  the  late Ching Dynasty thought that they lived in the worst times ,and  the impotent and foolish Manchuria leadership made China invaded by the foreigners; people who lived in the 1930's thought that they lived in the worst situation because there were so many  warlords , and China was divided; people who lived in the 1960's thought  that they lived in the worst times because of the Cultural Revolution..etc; worst behavior of people ,  worst economic situation..are always the targets of blame.. etc,

it seems  better not to accuse our times of being so worst , better see in ourselves what we can contribute to improve or reverse the situation..
