Late this morning I went to the bank drawing the sum on deposit that expired today and lodged it again for another year. On my way home I bought a watermelon for son who had been complaining against me for not buying that. Peaches were the only fruit I had bought him before in this summer vacation. I think it healthy, juicy and economical. Above all I can judge and choose the best according to the price and the appearance which could suit the taste of son undoubtedly. But as to the watermelon, I' m not so certain about it, especially the striped local one. The watermelon I bought was a different species from Taonan, another region in our province, which is oval with greenish rind. I learned by actual experience that its quality is out of question; almost any of this sort would be good as long as it is not stored too long. In spite of that, I was admitted to have a bite of it for checking before buying it. This gave son a pleasant surprise because in the previous period he had just eaten the watermelon given by elder brother and sister.
