Today we were offered a lunch quite different from those in the past, which consisted of steamed bread and soup. The steamed bread was brought from outside and the soup was cooked by the cook of our school. The soup was prepared and served at the usual time while the steamed bread was still on its way to school. We waited anxiously. Some of my hungry and impatient colleagues began to take the soup despite the absence of the steamed bread. Ten minutes after the last period of class in the morning a motor-cyclist turned up with a heavy load of steamed bread when the soup had got cold.
