Environment can change a person to a certain degree. People in favorable living conditions are likely to degrade. The indigenous populations in some out-of-the-way districts have many excellent qualities. That is why the divorce rate is rising in some well-to-do families；why the offspring of the upper classes often idle away their time；why the children of poor parents can distinguish themselves. Therefore good conditions are a two-edged weapon which can be used equally for development or destruction. From my own experience, a man had better pass his childhood in straitened circumstances. Then he will benefit from it for life.
