Wheat and onion

Both winter wheat and onion are sown in autumn. Their seedlings can live through the winter. Winter wheat is grown in my native land, central Hebei. It is usually planted between mid-September and early October after the harvest of corn. Here in northeast my second home as I see the newly sprouted onion I can't help recalling the wheat shoots in the fields of my birthplace. They resemble each other both in shape and color. I still remember taking our sheep with the other teenagers to graze in the hard wheat fields in early winter before the sturdy seedlings above the ground being killed by the freezing cold.

The first supermarket supposedly appeared on the American landscape in 1946. That is not very long ago. Until then, where was all the food? People tend to forget.... the food was in homes, gardens, local fields, and forests. It was near kitchens, near tables, near bedsides. It was in the pantry, the cellar, the backyard.''
Onions, like garlic, are members of the Allium family, and both are rich in sulfur-containing compounds that are responsible for their pungent odors and for many of their health-promoting effects.
Onions can prevent cardiovascular diseases(heart attack), research have shown that onion's sulfur compounds may work in anti-clotting and unwanted clumping together of blood platelet cells. There is also evidence showing that sulfur compounds in onion can lower blood levels of cholesterol. Onions also have anti-cancer properties. Quite a lot of people have heart problems and brain blood clots resulting in death. People don't like to eat onions because of it's strong odor but god made onions for a purpose so don't ignore that.
