To keep
an institution in order, strict discipline is necessary. But as head of a basic
unit, the most important is to win the full support of its staff. To reach this
goal, besides his managing ability and regulations concerned, material
incentives could be effective. Compared with the three former schools I worked
at, the present one is what I like most. For our head has won over all us
teachers by doing us small favors now and then. A few days after I reported for
duty at this school, its chiefs arranged a small dinner for welcoming me. This moved
me deeply. As to the free lunches and fish and shrimps distributed to us
several times, we not only feel grateful but also determine to work whole-heartedly. You know we're easily satisfied with the little benefit
offered as rural teachers. But our dedication to work is enough to make up for
the sacrifices he has made for us.
