The unprecedented thick mist

It was misty and cloudy this morning. As I walked out of our apartment building, I saw the middle-aged woman who lives above us on the 6th floor had just finished her regular walking around the yard in spite of the misty weather. I had to put up with the unpleasant smell of the mist all the way to mother's. I cycled slowly to school when the road was covered with dense fog and the visibility down to 10 meters. All kinds of motor vehicles passing by slowed down with their headlights and taillights on and their horns blaring. Soon they were swallowed by the fog not far away.

- We have only one earth and its natural sources are not something we can take for ever. If we are not friendly to the earth, she fight back! and now we are being punished by nature. it's time for us to wake up and do our share to protect the environment.

Misty air is not smog or air pollution. Mist is a phenomenon caused by small droplets of water suspended in air. It is a natural thing. The writer says that it was misty and cloudy in the morning and he dislikes this type of weather.
There is no doubt many big cities in China have been polluted during to the economic boom, but still a lot of areas have not been affected much as China is the third largest country in the world.
I think that criticism has not done much help with the pollution in China but a solution will.

- I may have made a careless mistake. the fact is that people are talking about the fog and haze in the north and the northest. you can also see reports about the same problem on TV and the radio. So I took it for granted that the author were talking the same thing. In the passage the writer used unpleasant smell, which made me believe she was not talking the common fog. no matter what, there's difference between fog and haze or fog and haze.
