The first day of central heating

The heating period began for the blocks in our town. Yesterday evening when I passed the house sheltering the furnace which generates the heat, I saw a little smoke discharged from the tall chimney. As I entered our apartment building, I touched the heat-transmitting tubes by the spiral stairway and felt them still cold. This evening as soon as I returned from mother's, I checked the tubes again from the ground floor to the third floor where our flat is located. I found the upper pipe was warm and the lower one cold. I exposed the valves of the pipes in our kitchen and unscrewed them a little letting off the air inside until water came out. Then the upper pipe got warm.

- Heating is being switch on at your place, and over here today is the first day I switch off the cooling fan. The temperature has dropped from 30*C to 22*C. 22* is the best temperature which does not require any conditioning. However, I am a bit concerned at the oncoming winter. The temperature could drop to 8* at it's coldest which is colder than Beijing because our air is very humid being near to the sea. It is just like wet from the rain and entering a cold airconditioned room. Furthermore, the electricity heating bill could kill me. Last year, I had to pay up to 800 yuan just for electricity. This year, I would have to conserve on electricity and wear warmer clothing.
