- It is amazing that you still use the iron wok (Deep iron frying pan) for frying food. We have stopped using those iron utensils years ago because it rusts, hard to clean, sticky and looks odd in the kitchen. Most people nowadays uses those modern non-stick teflon frying pans because they use less oil, non-stick and easy to clean. Another reason is that people just don't know how to cook and often overcook or burn the food. Furthermore, most people don't trust the chemically sprayed on teflon layer believing that it could cause cancer.
However, I believe that the good old wok is the best for cooking because it create a good fried taste or flavor, even though it is difficult to manage.
You have done the right thing by frying it for a change. Actually cabbage has no taste on it's own and the taste comes from proper cooking. It would be better you added some sauce with the usual five ingredients or spices.
