This afternoon when I finished my teaching at 2：30 I left for home on foot. The road was slippery with hardened snow and ice. It would be dangerous to cycle on it. Some sections were covered with heaps of snow brought over by wind, which slowed down the speed of the passing vehicles. Soon after I walked out the school gate, I got a glimpse of the bus back to our town at the crossroads over 100 meters away. I couldn't shout to have the bus stopped. If I had a mobile phone and knew the telephone number of the conductor, I could have it done so. Now I could only see it driven farther and farther away from me until it disappeared. When I covered one third of the distance, our headmaster drove his car overtaking me. He stopped his car for picking me up. Seeing all seats taken on the car, I let him go. It took me one and a half hours to get home, twice the time I spend by bike.
