My first mobile phone

I had been the only person among us teachers who had no mobile phone until a few days ago. I had been thinking it unnecessary to have a mobile phone because I have little communication with others. And a fixed telephone was enough for me. But second elder sister complained that she couldn't get in touch with me sometimes for something urgent when I left our flat where my telephone is installed. The other day she gave me a phone card to insert in the idle phone at home. I once used it as a clock. Since its charger was taken away and got lost I had put it aside for so long that it had been covered with a layer of dust.

- The mobile phone craze is causing a lot of people to wonder if they really need a mobile phone. The reason why some people still don't have a mobile phone is because they feel they don't need mobile communications and even see the mobile phone as a nuisance. They could be wrong and they soon discover that not only they need a mobile phone , but in fact, can't do without it. Such phones are essential entertainment and communications equipment for the younger generation.
However, for people of mature or advanced age, the cellphone could be a life saver. Elderly people are prone to unexpected illness and health challenges. Should anything happen to them on the streets, that phone could be a life saver.
Recently, a lot of people gave up their fixed line telephones and have it replaced by mobile phones, because they could avoid paying fees for the fixed line phones. Besides, the cellphone can do whatever the regular line phones can.
Personally, I hesitated quite a while before finally buying a new smart phone for myself. I did not buy a smart phone earlier because I am of the opinion that those phone technology is not mature yet and the prices were expected to fall. I was proved right. Eventually, I bought a mobile phone similar to Samsung galaxy for Rmb 1,500. My friends were waiting to laugh at me for buying such a cheap phone and expected it to break down soon. To everyone's surprise, it has been already more than half year I have been using that phone and there is not a single problem. The phone switches off itself at 11pm and on at 8am everyday automatically. The battery lasts 4 days for each charge, fast running, can do all the popular things. It sound loud and clear everywhere including unusual remote places. It is certainly worth the money, and I would soon save more when I give up the fixed line regular home phone.

- Although the mobile phone has been popular, I can do nothing with mine except ringing up. As a new hand, I even don't know how to answer such phones, let alone send text messages which is a piece of cake for an old hand. I think it's time to learn to use it as it brings us so many conveniences as you mentioned above. But on the other hand, we also find that while the device is narrowing the distance between people geographically, people become more and more estranged with each other day by day. Perhaps it is partly responsible for the deteriorating human relations today.

- I got a smart phone also several months ago. But it was not bought myself, instead it used to be my son's. He bought a new one and gave it to me. To tell the truth, I don't like it very much, though it can get online and do many popular things. The biggest problem is you have to recharge it almost everyday. Even if you don't use often, you still have to recharge it every other day.

- As other people I was surprised to know you got the first cell phone just now. When I got the first fixed phone, I hesitated a little, thinking it would be a waste of money, for I was not a businessman. However, once you have it, whether fixed one or mobile phone, you will find its usefulness. I think you would also have that feeling once you get a cell phone.
