The deserted street

Hot 1494 views. 2014-1-31 23:20 | festival, brought, evening, traffic, change

I found a sudden change taking place from yesterday evening to this evening. Almost all the shops along the street had been closed for the festival. Therefore the pavement before them was no more blocked by any goods displayed there or parked cars. This brought me a great convenience as a pedestrian. There was nearly little traffic and few pedestrians on the street. The main road turned broad, silent and desolate. Outside the gates of some houses were scattered the remains of exploded firecrackers. Occasionally one or two explosions in the far distance were still heard. It seemed that all people were enjoying the pleasure of relaxation at home.

This morning I walked the entire street with a neighbor for 30 minutes trying to find something to eat while most of the restaurants and food shops are closed. Eventually, we found a small food shop opened but all that was available was noodles, beef congee and a vegetable dish. All prices were marked up 30%. When the food arrived, we noticed that the vegetables were yellowish. We asked the boss and he admitted that it was unfresh overnight because there are no fresh supplies. Tomorrow is also the 2nd day of spring festival, so I guess we would have nothing but shanghai buns. It was my mistake for not stocking up food sufficiently. There are some vermicelli and instant noodles in the food cabinet, so I guess I would have to be happy with that. Most restaurants would open on the 4th day of Spring Festival and everyone goes to work. Our holidays are short unlike those in other parts of the country where they are closed for weeks.

Never seen the street so deserted and it was real fun being able to cross the road  leisurely without risking thrown into the air by some roaring sports car.

We should manage to buy enough necessities before festivals to avoid being exploited or failing to shop on such occasions.
