Our pump refused to work this afternoon when it was switched on. In spite of my difficulty to move about, I got down from the kang to find the problem of the pump. With mother's help, I lifted the pump out of the well. I told mother to switch it on again. This time it came into operation. I felt relieved at the discovery. Then I refastened the pump and refixed the tube on its outlet. I let it down into the well with it raised a little in the water making it shallower than before  to keep from touching the deposited silt at the bottom. At the second try, muddy water was pumped into the jar in the yard.
