Pepper powder

The pepper powder in the kitchen is nearly used up. This afternoon I produced the peppercorns bought long before, drying them in the sun. I noticed many small ball-like black seeds among them, which I have never seen before. Then I began to pick them out and threw them away. This took me a lot of time for most of them were wrapped in the rind and only a small proportion of them were wholly bare and could be discarded directly. As the left rinds had been well dried I ground them with a rolling pin in front of our house door. This was the first time I have done the job. Mother usually dried Chinese prickly ash on the kang before grinding it.

Reply sunnyv 2014-6-23 12:54: Hard to imagine making pepper through DIY. We would just buy it of the shelf for almost nothing. Seems I have lost touch with nature. Should there be any major calamity and I have to grow food, I would probably die of hunger before I harvest anything. Over reliance on modern conveniences should be rationalized.
