Yesterday at about 15：43, a knifeman with his lower body uncovered appeared on the main street of our town. This immediately caused a panic among the pedestrians and the vendors. From time to time he wielded his knives to people he came across. As a result, they were all frightened and fled away. After receiving an urgent call, the local civilian police rushed to the scene. Soon criminal police and special-duty police from Jiutai Municipal Public Security Bureau joined them making the criminal cornered at a supermarket. But the lunatic took a female teacher as hostage in an attempt to resist arrest. Moreover, he ignored the persuasion and scratched the hostage with his knife. The police gunned him down and rescued the teacher, who was rushed to hospital for treatment and pronounced to be out of danger.

- It would be inappropriate to describe him as a terrorist or mobster as both of these involves more than one person with organized planning and attack. We describe him as a 'Lunatic'. We also jokingly describe him as a 'Looney'.
There were quite of lot of mentally disturbed people in the past, but the situation has improved in recent few years.
Members of the public normally would not volunteer to help in this case as it is dangerous and requires trained people to handle him. When we come across such cases on the streets, we should first report to the police and keep watch at a distance. We can help when it is safe.
