Reform on pensions

Hot 1480 views. 2014-7-26 23:35 | currently, afternoon, employees, public, before

Late this afternoon I happened to get the information about the reform on pensions of employees of public institutions when watching TV news. The new regulations have been launched since July 1st this year. The currently employed personnel shall be demanded to pay premiums every year before their retirement as carried out in enterprises. The move aims at narrowing the gap of pensions between institutions and enterprises. I heard the depressing news first from one of my colleagues. Our pension sum will be greatly reduced to the level as in the enterprises. It is lucky for brother and sister who have just retired and can avoid suffering such heavy losses.

Actually, I can tell you that the authorities are trying to cheat the public and renege on responsibility. It is so easy to reduce pensions, but a lot of people are deeply affected by such unexpected decisions.

The same time happened in my city. The authorities believed that the pensions system was too much and hard for them to pay, so they decided to cancel the  long established employment pensions and replace it with a new system. The result was those who worked for years and relied on the pension was left with nothing much to survive on. That is unfair. People were furious and went to the streets to protest loudly. Eventually the authorities realized the unfairness and set up an acceptable pensions system as follows;

- Those who were employed before 2010 and entitled to a pension, would continue to receive a tangible long term pension on retirement. In other words they continue to benefit from a good pension as long as they live.

- Those who are employed after 2010, would not have pensions, and instead, money (about 10%) would be taken from their monthly salary and saved to a pension fund and they can take retirement money in a lump sum or monthly or at the age of 60.

The system is working quite well. People affected should unite together to tell the authorities to be fair and do case studies from other cities before making a final decision.
