There are two plots of early-ripe cabbages sited about one hundred meters apart by the road I pass every day. The smaller one near our bungalow has just been harvested leaving many cabbages with signs of rot and all the outside green leaves. The white central parts were loaded onto a heavy truck with high railings at the back. The vegetables were transported to Changchun to sell by wholesale. If the truck was hired, the freight would cost the grower dearly. The quick-growing vegetable needs only about two months to ripen. Owing to the sufficient rain and the expert planter, a bumper cabbage harvest is out of question.
