As a must in all sorts of exams, English has ever been taken seriously for so long. Teachers, students and parents tended to overemphasize the importance of English study. They spent more time, energy and money in English than any other subjects. Seeing the catastrophic effects of the trend, the education authorities have decided to change the situation. First, English marks will be cut down in exams compared with other subjects. Then it is to retreat from the formal exams. It's just tested as a reference when the course is finished. But this does not indicate that English is no more important. It means that English study only suits a small portion of promising students who want to live and study abroad. For the mediocre majority, learning our native tongue is enough.

- Yes ,it is ,The ministry of education has announced that the university entrance exam will cancel the English，I don't know if it is good ,but I don't agree that English study only suits a small portion of promising students who want to live and study abroad,because a lot of jobs still need staff's English level is better ,so I think we should not be affected by these,In the contemporary，we should attach great importance to English，it is really important.

- I believe this policy cannot reduce the importance of English in people's mind. After all, our nation is opening up, and the tendency of globalization is inevitable, so foreign languages, especially English, are important. Of course, there is no doubt that our native language is the most essential. We can never ignore it. I think the policy indicates the government encourages the people to pay more attention to our own culture, custom and language.

- It's not the fall of *English*, I suppose, rather the fall of *the current way of English education*, or the say the most *the fall of English in Chinese education system*. As an international language, and the most used language in academic researches, English is just as important as it was before the policy came out. To survive in this globalized age we need English more desperately than any other centuries.
I have followed the topic for quite some time. One of the most ridiculous argument I've heard is that English has been attached too much importance to an extent that it obstructs Chinese learning. Having experienced the way of Chinese teaching in our pre-college education, I wouldn't predict a great improvement of Chinese level after implementing the policy you mentioned.
