Son's breakfast usually consists of porridge,
steamed bread, a boiled egg and fried peanuts. The peanuts brought over by
first elder sister from our old home have been eaten up mainly by son. Being aware
of son's preference for fried peanuts, the other day I bought
half a kilo of raw peanuts for ¥6. Then
I fried some on the stove and had them get a little burnt out of carlesness,
which tasted horrible. Today I fried some more over soft fire. This time I paid
close attention to the changing color and smell of the peanuts stirred in the
small pot against making blunders last time. Hearing the peanuts crackle and
then smelling a faint fragrance, I removed them from the pot with their color
darkening a little. They turned out crisp and delicious.
