Chinese sorghum

Hot 2540 views. 2014-8-31 23:57 | backyard, windows, Chinese, outside, plastic

Mother grew some sorghum in the slip of field left outside the hedge of our backyard last year. After threshing it, she gave the grains to brother for feeding his chickens. Then she used the threshed sorghum ears making a few brooms and pot-scouring brushes. We sealed up the windows with some stalks and plastic to prevent draughts in the winter. This year mother planted more sorghum and it grows better than last year. So we decided to grind the seeds as food. In my native village, we once fed the pigs with the husk. And its stubbles were dug up and laid along the top edges of the mud brick wall with their roots exposed as eaves and the upper parts covered with ox back-shaped earth. Its stalks and top sections were used to make covers and mats.

It is very good to make full use of that. Most of things, actually, we can do it like the way similiarly as you mentioned. If so, we can save a lot both in economy and materials.
