Whenever some important festivals arrived, we usually had been given some gifts or money apart from having holidays. But since last year we have been denied any gift or money on these occasions. The cancellation of the preferential treatment seems to be connected with the current measures to cut down the expenses of the government. As one of my superiors said, these petty favors that the school authorities did us could make little impact on our financial situation. We just derived psychological satisfaction from them. We had been used to these small favors；once they were suspended, a sense of loss would come into being. The coming festivals are no more expected as before for we are creatures of sensibilities rather than senses most of the time.
