you didn't hear of the folk lengend about the kitchen god? because of making some mistakes he was driven from the heaven by the jade emperor to the worldly world to be in charge of the kitchen affairs for people. it is said that he will stay with each family for a year. and on december 23rd in lunar calendar, he will fly back to the heaven to report to the jade emperor about the things happened to the family in the whole year. so on this day each family clean the house very cleanly and offer sacrifices to the kitchen god so that he will put in good words for them. according to some customs in some regions ,people tend to dedicate sugar or candy before his picture meaning to make his mouth sweet and praise them in front of the emperor. after 7 days the kitchen will return to each family and stay for a year.
