I still remember that at the end of his installment speech, president Obama used these words to encourage his people that they could recover from the economic crisis. In many aspects, these three words have magic effects.

I had been learning how to swim for nearly three yeas since grade two in primary school. But now, I still can’t swim. I didn’t know why I could be sp stupid at that time. For a long time, I thought that was because I didn’t inherit the good genes about swimming from my parents. But later I realized that wasn’t the matter of genes. It was me who was not confident in swimming that smashed my dream of gaining a medal in swimming competition.

Sometimes it is not because of our lacking the ability to fulfill something, but because of our lacking the confidence to fulfill it. We are afraid to fail since we entertain the opinion that we can’t achieve it. What’s worse, some of us even give up the opportunity before trying, just recall our memories, we can see that there were many times when we had signed up to take part in a competition, but finally didn’t get on the stage to make a performance simply because our competitors “seemed” better than us. What a silly thought! So, say “yes, we can” to ourselves when we hesitate to move. Then we will find all that seem very though are quite easy, at least easier than they seem to be.

Of course, there must be some time when we are emotional and irrational. It is impossible to keep being sober in everywhere at anytime. That means, the possibility to believe in ourselves in every second is limited. When we are in the downs of our lifetime, we aren’t capable of getting out of the abyss. When we are too upset to pull up our socks, we need someone to tell us “yes, you can”.

We are the only one in the whole universe that can overcome every obstacle and be capable of chasing our own dreams in our lifetime. If we can’t do it, who can? We have to believe in ourselves and that’s the secret of success. If president Obama can promise his people that they can make a change with God’s blessing, we can promise ourselves that “confidence doesn’t need any specific reason. If we are alive, we should feel 100% confident.”
