A farmer won the first place in the shallot competition held in Zhangqiu, Shandong Province. The giant shallot with the height of 223 cm was taller than the famer himself .It was his third time to win this competition. According to the rules, the champion could gain the award of 10,000 yuan. Yet, what is the value of this sort of competition? Who really dare to eat such a giant shallot? Is it really edible? We are the victims of the so-called high-tech products. I really doubt that the shallot can grow up to such height in a completely natural environment without any chemicals.
Food safety is top on the list of our priorities, yet, as for ordinary consumers, we are not able to identify the quality of food. We have no choice but to believe in merchants and official department. It turns out that they always let us down. The repeated exposure of food unsafety really does harm to our feelings. Once, I blindly belived that the products made by famous brands must be reliable. Our dairy producers told me that I was utterly wrong, such as Guangming, Mengniu,Yili and so on. Where is their responsibility and credit? Maybe these things have been eaten up by their boundless desire for profits. That's ok. If we can never count on merchants whose priority is profit., at least we have our government department supervising the market. What's the result? Just another disappointment. I think that we should draw a bill on good safety and impose a harsh punishment on the law violators. Let them know that they are required to pay high prices for their irresponsible bahavior.
giant shallot. Will you have a bite?
